Who are we?
We are a group of certified specialists in Addiction Medicine in the medical and mental health areas interested in obtaining reliable information on the dynamics of “the reality of the use of drugs in the Mexican-USA border”. Also, we are interested in:
1) Research, prevention, education and treatment of addictions in both sides of the Mexico/USA border.
2) Acquiring information on the psychological, family and social impact on the general population of the violence generated by the fight of the governments of Mexico and the USA against drugs.
3) The creation and implementation of strategies for the prevention of drug use and education on the topic, and for the avoidance of violence in our binational context.
4) The creation and implementation of certification and educational programs on addictions, accredited at a binational level, in order to prepare medical and mental health professionals suited to work in the context of binational drug issues and capable to implement binational prevetion programs
Mission
To inform and educate young Latino adolescents in order to prevent drug abuse as well as to avoid the violence generated by the war against drugs in the border. Also, to disseminated and implement these informative programs and prevention strategies that will be geared toward the general population as well as to adolescents and adults that cross the border every day.
Vision
To create a binational center about addiction education and prevention with a group of international research experts offering information, education, prevention and treatment of addictions via the implementation of binational certifications and educational programs in collaboration with international organizations from both countries USA-Mexico. It is hoped that this will allow us to prepare professional “experts on binational drug prevention, education and the dynamic of violence issues” to reduce the demand of drugs and to avoid the violence caused by the war on drugs in the border cities. Also, we intend to increase cross border collaboration between professionals in both sides of the border Mexico-USA.
OVERALL GOALS
The main goals of the Binational Program for addictions information, education and prevention will be:
To create and promote prevention programs, in the aforementioned areas, geared toward the Latino population of both sides of the border.
The reduction of the demand of drugs, among the population, in our binational community via educational and prevention programs.
To provide information, on strategies, on how to prevent being exposed to the violence, that affects the border, as a result of the fight against drugs and the drug cartels by the governments of USA-México.
The creation of recognized professionals, in the mental and medical areas, trained with common certified, educational accredited programs and credentials, at a binational level whom can, legally, work in the aforementioned project in both sides of the border.
The projects, will be conducted in the context of binational collaboration, of the state borders on the USA-México
